Treble Voices for Peace is dedicated to building a shared vision of inclusion, community, peace and justice through the power of song. It is an all ages, community chorus performing music primarily composed by and for women and LBGTQAI2S+ folks. All voices who sing in the treble range (soprano, alto, contralto) are invited to join.
We strive to create a welcoming and safe space for women and LBGTQAI2S+ folks from all backgrounds and levels of musical knowledge. We believe in the transformational power of song to create inspiration, heal trauma, bridge divides, and bring attention to
issues that affect the gender-marginalized community.
Our motto is “Quality Through Inclusion.” There are no auditions to become a member. Singing both simple and complex pieces, we work to achieve a high performance standard connected to our open and affirming membership. We spend time building our relationships, and balance the joy of play and adventure with hard work, to create something bigger than ourselves.
Treble Voices endeavors to open minds and hearts through our music, performances, and presence in our communities. We look to partner with other community groups, such as schools, libraries, nursing homes, women’s shelters, and other arts organizations.
Our parent organization, The Olympia Peace Choir began in 2010 when Kerri Lynn Nichols, who had envisioned an inclusive community choir, shared her idea with a few close friends. The original vision was to build a full choral program: an all-voices Choir (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), an auditioned small group (The Olympia Peace Singers), a Treble Choir and a Children’s Choir.
A first orientation/rehearsal for the SATB choir was held in a legal building donated by John Parr. We were hoping for 20 people to show up and sing. Instead, there were 40! In the last few years The Olympia Peace Choir OP has grown to 90+ singers. Currently, the choir meets at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Monday nights from September through late May. TOPC has performed to standing-room-only audiences at the Capitol Rotunda, Arts Walk, the Olympia Farmers Market, and more. We’re grateful for the Olympia community’s love and support for our mission.
As our program has grown, and to make sure there is a place for everyone to sing, we have expanded our reach. To fulfill the third part of the original vision, Treble Voices For Peace came to fruition in 2023. Grants and individual donations have given us an initial financial footing to create a choir with a specific goal of serving women, LGBTQIA2S+, young adults and marginalized groups. Treble Voices for Peace meets on Thursday nights at United Churches from September to May.
While both choirs are open and affirming, TVFP is specifically for those singing in the treble range: soprano, alto, contralto.
