Most of us consider The Olympia Peace Choir a family. Here are some members’ thoughts about what it’s like to belong to our peaceful tribe.
Joining the Peace Choir has been a great way for me to stay musical in my busy life! I love the challenge of learning new music and working on improving my singing skills, and it is combined with such a loving, supportive, and affirming community of people. It’s also been a great way to meet more people and feel connected to my broader community. This year, it’s been especially nice since my mom is singing with me too!

I get so much joy from being a part of this group of people joining together to listen to and sing with each other, working together to convey shared ideals. At the end of a workday, it’s wonderful to be able to relax into a group of various but like-minded people who extend to each other such courtesy and good citizenship within our small community. Having been involved in music for most of my life, I can say that we are truly blessed to have one of the best directors I have ever worked with.

I moved 2000 miles to start a new life in Olympia in 2015. I realized that I’d have to make an effort to meet new people, so the first thing I did was join a community choir. Becoming a member of The Olympia Peace Choir turned out to be life-changing. I didn’t just find a musical group, I found a community of like minds united toward a common goal—to spread a message of peace through song. I’ve grown as a musician and a person, forged lifetime friendships, and made heart-opening memories as part of this talented, nurturing group.

The Olympia Peace Choir has given me lots of opportunity for growth as a musician. Whether you’ve been involved in music for most of your life or you’re just wanting to start, this choir has something for everyone. It’s been a rewarding journey lending my voice to a large group and creating music with a meaningful message. The opportunity to play guitar or any other instrument on selected songs is a true testament to the all-inclusiveness of this group. I am so grateful to be a part of this choir.

The Olympia Peace Choir is the first organization I joined after moving to Olympia. It not only became a place where I felt welcomed and made friends, but it allowed me to experience the joy of singing in a choir. I had not done any singing before, and was not confident that I was “good enough” for that. I have learned that singing comes from your heart and with that have been able to experience so very much through this choir.

I have found my voice! Singing with the Olympia Peace Choir and adding my one voice to that of 100-strong has been empowering beyond belief. What a joy to feel that I am contributing to the world in such a positive way.
